第19章 鹧鸪天（1）

大学毕业自勉，1955

溪水清清下石沟，

千弯百折不回头，

兼容并蓄终宽阔，

若谷虚怀鱼自游。

心寂寂，念休休，

沉沙无意却成洲，

一生治学当如此，

只计耕耘莫问收。

Down the ditch fl ows the stream clean and clear,

Twisting and turning without a look in the rear,

Her size expands along her journey all-inclusive,

Her bosom opens for fishes to swim free of fear.

Heart in peace, mind without care,

Sands form into an islet unaware—

A model for lifetime scholarly research to follow:

Do what you can, but never ask how you fare.
