Summary

The Lancang-Mekong River serves to link the six riparian countries (or the “LM countries”) in the region (the “LM region”). The LM region’s superior geographic location, as well as the cultural similarities and close economic and trade ties among the riparian countries, potentially make it an example of new sub-regional cooperation. To further promote the development of capacity cooperation in the region, this report focuses on the textile and clothing value chains and seeks to provide theoretical support and policy recommendations by summarising and analysing the status quo of cooperation in the textile and clothing industry in the region. This effort is of significant practical relevance as the LM countries pursue regional industrial transformation and upgrading, along with a higher position on the global value chain.
